How it all Began

How it all Began

My name is Cheryl and I founded Jasper & Bobbie Aprons…. Because… I wear aprons. I always have. Not really sure when I started but I can’t imagine not wearing one when I cook.

I don’t own many aprons; they are mainly ones that my sons bought me from Mother’s Day Stalls at school. My go-to’s are a pink love heart one and a Wonder Woman one. Bless my boys.

Step forward a few years and one of my dearest friends made me an apron as a xmas gift, and I couldn’t believe how different it felt to wear compared to my others!

It was double sided, wider, super long straps that tie at the front and a pocket! It became my favourite, and I’d be like a child sitting under it on the clothes line waiting for it dry! Hahaha!

So, long story short, I ALWAYS wear an apron when I cook and trust me…. Some aprons feel great, and some feel annoying.

Fast forward another couple of years, and we (hubby and I) headed off to friends for drinks and nibblies. They live in an upmarket high rise, and they wear beautiful designer clothes. In fact they had bought me an expense dress as a gift and I was wearing it that day to their apartment.

Us girls went inside to prepare the food platters while the boys got us some drinks.

“umm… hum… Where’s your aprons… I am NOT cutting food up wearing this amazing dress without an apron on!”

“Oh sorry babe, I actually don’t own any aprons.”

“Whaaaaatttt?!?!?! But you wear designer clothes and you’re a foodie!”

** mental note – I will buy her a beautiful apron has her first apron, that she will love, and will still look amazing in, and she can wear it over her equally amazing clothes.**

Well… I then spent the next 3 months searching the planet for cool, gorgeous, stunning, funky aprons for her. And do you think I could find one??? Nope! (To be fair, there was some nice aprons from a European retailer, but the website wasn’t in English, so I didn’t feel comfortable ordering one).

I figured, if no one else is going to make them, I WILL!  I started sketching designs (pages and pages of designs), I went to fashion workshops, met with other label designers, met and spoke with various manufacturers, and got busy sewing in between my ‘normal life’ and working. And … I can’t describe how much this business project lit me up. I was so excited. Still am.

Creating, and designing, and believing that these aprons I have brought to life for you, will make you feel lit up too.

Sending big love vibes

Cheryl
